WARNING: new iMacs have a bug!!!
Last weekend, Hubby bought me an iMac for my birthday. (see last blog post) Well, once we got it up and running Hubby ran the software updates so we'd have the latest system. Almost immediately after running the updates the iMac started freezing. We could be on the internet, using itunes, editing on Photoshop it would freeze at the most inopportune times and have to be restarted by holding the power button. At one point, I had to restart the machine 5 times within 10 minutes! I was cursing Apple and vowing to move back to PC.
Well, Google turned up this:

Apple acknowledges iMac freezing issue
By Jim Dalrymple
Apple acknowledged on Thursday recent problems with its consumer iMac computer and promised a fix as soon as possible.
“A small number of iMac users have made us aware that a recent software update issued by Apple can sometimes cause their iMacs to freeze, requiring them to restart their iMac,” an Apple spokesperson told Macworld.
According to users the computer becomes unusable, requiring a hard reset in order to recover. Apple doesn’t know the exact cause of the problem, but they are investigating.
“We are tracking down the root cause of this bug, and will issue a software update which corrects it as soon as we can — most likely later this month,” the company spokesperson said. “We apologize for the inconvenience.”

Doesn't that suck?!! Turns out the iMac is fine when purchased but when you update the software it starts freezing. We were unable to figure out how to get the update off the machine (we tried reinstalling the original software, etc) so we packed it up and made our way back to the store. People couldn't believe we were returning an iMac. :-P
We ended up exchanging the iMac vowing to not perform any updates. We want to purchase the new operating system Leopard, but we're afraid of how it'll run. :-\
Any thoughts?
